This week’s colors are blue, green, peach and gold (I used yellow) and using the colors for challenge #602 I’ve created a collection of mermaid cards that I’ll be sharing here on my blog and on my social media.
Today is Day 1 of my Mermaid Card Collection where I created a slimline card using the Honey Bee stamp set Under the Sea. I put a lot into this card and enjoyed the creative process. This is my first time using Honey Bee stamps and when I saw that these darling mermaids were retiring I knew I had to nab them up.
The first thing I did to create my card was to stamp the mermaid and a bunch of the other images from the Under the Sea set and to die cut them out using the Under the Sea dies. Next I used the Small Slimline with Lift the Flaps die and die cut my stitched panel from white card stock. After that I arranged my images on the white slimline panel until I was happy with my layout and then colored my images using Copic markers.
Once my images where colored, I used some distress oxide inks (tumbled glass, broken china, mowed lawn & lucky clover) and a wave stencil to create a blended background. For the sand at the bottom of my card, I die cut a piece of kraft card stock using the Stitched Hillside Borders die and blended on some vintage photo distress oxide ink around the edges. In the photo above you can see that I used some Glossy Accents on the bottle and also on the bubbles throughout my background. Next I stamped my sentiment using my Misti tool and die cut the Fantastic portion of the sentiment and adhered that.
This sweet little mermaid image comes with her hands together like she should be holding something and so I used a kraft knife and made a V cut around her hands and added a seashell with a pearl. I added all of my fun images to my card and popped up the mermaid using foam tape. I added some sequins and dots of Glossy Accents in my background and used my clear Wink of Stella glitter pen on the mermaids tail, crown (I love that there’s a crown in each stamp set) and the shell she’s holding.

There are so many wonderful details in this fantasy scene Lynn! Some of my favourites are the pearl on the shell your mermaid is holding, the sea plants embellishing the ribbons on her braids and the message in a bottle. Also, who could resist that punning sentiment! Vicky x
