CQC#87 - Whooo's Birthday

Hello friends!  Today I have a card and 3D project that I've created for the Colour Queen Color Challenge.
But before I get into my post I'd just like to say something...month's ago I created an owl using the Stampin' Up Pillow Box Sizzix die (you can see my post here), it was original I thought because I had never seen anyone create an owl using the Pillow Box die and I subscribe and follow a large amount of blogs and I'm constantly surfing the web.  Well since then I've seen several people post on their blogs the same owl using the Pillow Box die without so much as a mention of my name, link to my blog or to even drop me an email to asking if I'd mind them using my idea.  Don't get me wrong I do understand that if you put something out on the web some people feel it's up for grabs.  I also know that copying is the best form of flattery and that we all find inspiration in each others work...but it does upset me when someone claims to have created it themselves without giving credit.  I'm a big believer in giving credit where credit is due and I've always tried to stick to that rule here on my blog.  If I've ever gotten inspiration from someone I link to that person, it's common courtesy.  It's also easy to improve on something that someone else has originally created.

The Owl Happy Birthday card uses the SU stamp set Curly Cute, the Two-Step Owl punch and the Scallop Border punch as well as some Melon Mambo designer paper.
For the Owl Pillow Box you can see the supplies below that I used in order to create him, starting with the Pillow Box die I cut out using the Soft Sued and then I cut one half of the die out with the Melon Mambo designer paper.  I used the various sized circle punches for the eyes, heart punch for the two feet and beak, large oval for the wings and punched a little more than half of the scallop circle punch out of the yellow and layered them for the belly.  The one thing you must have when putting one of these together is excellent adhesive, I used my Scor-tape to adhere the box, designer paper, scallop belly layers and wings.
Thank you for your visit and have a nice day!

OMGosh, Lynn... both your owl card and project are just freakin' adorable!!!!!! LOVE those fun colors together!

As for the unfortunate situation of people not giving you credit, I find it very sad and disheartening : ( It's too bad there are some bad apples out there... however, I hope it does not stop you from sharing your talent and gorgeous creations with the rest of us in blogland.

LOVE IT! Love those colors together, even though I don't like the colors separately. That's the sign of a truly awesome creation! This will be on my punch inspiration blog post tomorrow. TFS

Lynn, I love your stuff and I hardly ever leave a comment but today you have outdone yourself! This is just too cool for school! AND the reason I think so is that I have this small group of friends who stamp, one is my "upline" who only really stays active for us, several of us have become hobby demos to save some money, some of us go in and out of demo status depending on money situations, we've been through two divorces and a couple of lay offs, one separation. So this morning I took the lead and sent out an email to our little group addressing everyone as "Women Who Stamp (aka the Whooos)." One of us is a UVA grad and I just know she's going to say something about Wahoos.... Anyway, each year 5 of us take a weekend (one has had to back out already this year) to stamp our little hearts out. We go away in October so usually we're working on Christmas cards. One year I gave everyone a basket I made from a template I bought; last year I didn't do anything and this year I think I'll make little Whoooos (number of o's is optional) from the pillow box die and I wanted to tell you. So imagine my dismay when I saw your post with your darling Whoooo today! What a poopy thing to have happen to you! I do not have a blog, I am not clever and creative like so many women who have paper crafting blogs, but I ALWAYS share the joy I get from yours and their sharing of projects -- ok, not always, sometimes I'm a poop and don't leave a comment -- but if I were going to make something and give it to my friends you can be sure I would share your information (and they probably already subscribe to your blog and will see my comment and my surprise will be ruined, but it's worth it to let you know I think you rock and your creativity is appreciated by moi and your generosity in sharing with geeky tax lawyers who might be able to create a mean offshore company, but whose paper crafting skills are frequently limited. OK, I never closed my parentheses but you get the idea. We did order a bouquet of origami flowers for a colleague who was ill -- the flowers were folded from pages of the Internal Revenue Code! How cool is that? Not quite as cool as your owl gift box....

I was lead to your blog by a post on our thread for Maryland Stampers. Someone posted your idea along with your info. I will say that I often CASE someone's ideas and by the time I get around to actually doing the card, I forget who I case'd. It's not meant to be hurtful but sometimes folks just don't think. I love what you did and you did it in the cutest colors! If we case it, please know you have the full credit. It's darling. I am not as creative so I do have to case!

I work with special people and I am always on the lookout for items they can put together and give to others. Your owl box is sooooo CUTE! And it will be a great item for my people to make. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

Lynn, YOUR owl pillow box is freakin' adorable!! I am so glad that I know that YOU are the original artist. It is unfortunate that others can't take the time to give credit where it is so clearly due. It's happened to me before too and it is so frustrating! We know the truth and there is good karma in that! Thank you for sharing your creativity so freely with all of us! ((hugs))

Oh my goodness, this is just about the cutest owl I have ever seen! What a fabulously creative idea to make him into a pillow box, and a perfect use of the colors for this week's ColourQ. So glad you shared how you made him, too!

It can be so frustrating when you see your ideas used without proper credit, so hopefully this will serve as a great reminder to those who have failed to acknowledge you as the source of their inspiration. Thanks for being so generous with your creativity!

Lynn, this is sooooo cool! I am definitely going to use this idea. I have several images of these owls saved and planned on giving them the credit, but I will make sure to give you the credit when I get one made.

Hi Lynn, Just found your blog and your adorable pillow box owl. I've seen quite a few in my "travels" and often wondered who originally made it. I've finally made one myself here http://blog.stampwithelaine.com/2011/06/pillow-box-owl.
Thank you for the inspiration!

Just wanted to say that I first saw the owls on a blog that referred back to www.cardalacarte.com (March 9,2011 post)where your blog was listed as their inspiration.
