Jane Davenport NEW Artomology - Making Faces blog hop

Hello, crafty friends! If you’re new and here for the Jane Davenport blog hop, welcome. Today I’m honored to be participating in the Spellbinders, Jane Davenport NEW Artomology - Making Faces blog hop. Jane is one of my favorite artist and I love her products so I’m thrilled to a part of the hop. I’ve created two cards and one mixed media layout that I’m sharing.

To celebrate this release, Spellbinders is giving away a $50 gift certificate to 3 lucky blog readers – selected from the comments across all of the blogs in the hop. Giveaway closes on Sunday, July 7th 11:59 pm EDT. Winners will be announced in our blog hop post the following Monday. The winner is responsible for shipping cost, duties, and taxes.
For my first card, I used Jane’s stamp set Free Spirit along with her fantastic Colorsticks. I used two pieces of watercolor paper cut to card size and using the Soul Window Colorsticks I colored directly onto both pieces using the colors bright future, brassy locks, canoodle and heart eyes. I created a pattern of scallops using the heart eyes red and canoodle orange along the bottom. I used one of Jane’s Magnetic Personality Brushes and added a little bit of water to blend the Colorsticks together. Next, on one of the watercolor pieces I stamped the figure of the girl and cut her out. On the other watercolored piece, I stamped my sentiment and an image from the Mindful Pause stamp set which I stamped in yellow and orange ink. I used some foam tape to adhere the figure of the girl to my card front.
For my second card, I used the stamp set Mix & Match. The illustrated faces in this set are wonderful because they can be used in so many ways, stamped onto paper and colored as is or used as a starting point like the photos below of my mixed media layout. In this case I stamped the faces onto a piece of watercolor paper and using the Colorsticks sets, Soul Window and Silky Skin I scribbled the colors I wanted to use to color the faces onto a piece of scrap paper and using a watercolor brush added water and just like that you can use them like a watercolor paint. For my card base, I again used the Colorsticks and watercolored on three circles of color, brassy locks, baby blues and flourish then used the baby blues and flourish sticks directly on the card to add dots of color within the circles. Once that was dry I stamped my sentiment from the Free Spirit set and adhered my painted faces, popping up the lower right face with foam tape.
I had so much fun creating this mixed media layout using Jane’s incredible products! Like so many people out there, I love swatching colors of the art/craft products that I own so this little journal that I have is where I’ve swatched Jane’s Colorstick sets. You can see my last layout here where I used more blues and cool colors. For this layout, I used the Mix & Match stamp set and stamped just the one face and used it as a starting point. In the bottom right corner, I swatched the Colorsticks, pout, french kiss, pucker up, eccentric and deep vain and added water to activate them. I used all of these colors to watercolor my background, adding texture by coloring directly over watercolored areas. I drew on how I wanted the her hair to flow and then watercolored it in using the eccentric colorstick. After that I stamped the cloud image from the Mindful Pause set in the upper left corner. I used the Birthday Suit and Palette Pastels to add color and shading to her face and the Chilled and Mineral Eyes Palette Pastels to add color to her hair and background. I stamped the Free Spirit sentiment from the stamp set and used the hot vinyl Ultimate pen for her hair and other areas on my layout. I also added highlights by using the unicorn paint over pens. I die cut some silver metallic paper using the Queen for a Day die and adhered it on her head then used the beautiful Silver Screen pen on her eyelids and the clouds in the background.
